As a real ‘people’s person’, the biggest benefit Wayne Potgieter brings to Verde Group from his 15-year career in freight and logistics, and subsequent 7 as an owner of multiple businesses, is his ability to engage with, understand and help resolve customer issues. A lifelong learner of life lessons, Wayne is currently formalising his knowledge reading for a Bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology at Massey, supporting his view that understanding behaviour and decision-making processes supports highly effective customer management.
Having joined Verde in mid-2018, today Wayne takes care of a portfolio of key accounts from a relationship perspective and is responsible for new business sales across multiple solutions. He finds the information technology industry fascinating, rewarding and a constant challenge, though he is always mindful of its ultimate purpose: making people more effective, productive and happier. That’s why he finds working with Verde Group so satisfying. It also underpins his definition of success – engaging with clients, working diligently with them to improve value creation.
Wayne’s a pragmatist and an optimist who believes in looking past the little things and maintaining focus on the bigger picture. “There will always be small challenges. It’s not about the problems we face, it’s how we perceive them that sets us apart,” he says.
Since his work with Verde represents a major career shift, Wayne admits to spending much time learning and studying and worries (needlessly) that this may adversely affect his BBQ conversations. A highly committed family man, the best times are spent with his wife and two children travelling, hiking or cycling.
