Computers have long played a central role in Mauritz Viljoen’s life. At just 14, he discovered a keen interest in programming and for entertainment, spent much time playing with Turbo Pascal. This led to studies in computer science at the University of Pretoria. Post-tertiary, Mauritz got to work as Java developer at a large medical insurance company, before discovering the joys of Enterprise Resource Planning on the Microsoft platform.
Times were changing as times do and by 2010, the fair shores of New Zealand beckoned and Mauritz took up employment at Verde. He’s been with us ever since, drawn to the varied nature of his work which includes problem solving, optimisation and coding across multiple industry verticals.
Mauritz appreciates the constant change and rapid pace of innovation in the technology space, as well as the opportunity to apply these developments to the benefit of clients in many different business types. His motto for life is as simple as it is profound: be kind. It’s also why he values being part of the Verde family: ‘we care’, he says.
After the working day is done, Mauritz enjoys spending time with his family including playing Minecraft together. And though he isn’t the biggest fan, he also keeps fit by running regularly.
