Technology is today so essential to our way of life that Chris Clark struggles to understand how humanity made it through the dark ages. The Auckland University graduate completed a Bachelor of Technology (Information Technology) in 1999 with honours, before commencing work as an analyst and programmer. After 11 years, he was ready for a change which would bring more balance to life and in 2006 joined Verde Group.
Initially working as a contractor, he found the company’s values aligned with his own and has been with us ever since. “Verde take the time to understand a customer’s needs, rather than trying to squeeze everyone into a standard approach,” he says.
Chris has a passion for development which is put to good use creating custom software to enhance the Greentree solutions of Verde’s customers. He gets a thrill when the significant hours invested in crafting a software solution becomes a working product.
To date, Chris’ favourite project was ProductRecallNZ, a re-development of GS1’s product recall system. As the lead developer for Verde, he played a key role in delivering a product widely used by the New Zealand business community.
Relationships are important to Chris, evident in his respect for the team and customers he works with. He particularly appreciates getting involved in web development, where he has a strong background. Lasting engagements, he believes, delivers greater value thanks to the common understanding of clients’ industries, businesses and terminology, and why existing software was developed the way it was.
In his spare time, Chris plays the keyboard and the saxophone, though with four children finding time is a challenge. He also programs, of course, and developed software for presentations in church services. It’s a practical example of his motto of ‘live generously to others’.
